You Make the Difference Inaugural Celebration
Association leaders take a look back, then set their
sights on the coming year
REALTOR® of the Year Bruce Gardner

The Association’s REALTOR® of the Year, Bruce Gardner, appeared at the Inaugural only in photos. His award was introduced by last year’s award winner Ed Hardey, who said that Gardner was in California for a family reunion. Hardey gave clues to introduce the REALTOR® of the Year, telling the audience that Gardner first arrived in Colorado years ago with only $1 in his pocket, and carries a one-dollar bill every day to remind himself where he came from.
Affiliate of the Year Tom Gould

“I do what I do because it’s what we’re supposed to do,” Tom Gould told the audience at the AAR Inaugural in September. The vice-chairman of the Affiliate Committee was surprised onstage by his family as he accepted his award as Affiliate of the Year. Gould has been instrumental in creating momentum and motivation in the active Affiliate Committee. “We can’t do it without every member,” he said. “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do what I do.”
AAR’s Rising Star Piyush Ashra

The Inaugural audience gave Piyush Ashra a standing ovation as he accepted his award as the Association’s first-ever Rising Star. The honor was initiated to recognize a REALTOR® new to the business whose efforts have stood out among his or her peers. Ashra thanked his family for their support and offered his appreciation to his colleagues at Coldwell Banker, who “help inspire me and who help me be a successful REALTOR®.”
Good Neighbor John Stanton

AAR’s Community Service Award, also known as the Good Neighbor Award, went to John Stanton (center) whose efforts in the community include a passion for education. Stanton, who was congratulated by outgoing President David DeElena and last year’s Good Neighbor Lyn Johnson, is active in the Aurora Public Schools. Stanton serves on the directorate of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and is active with the Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus.

With their right hands raised, AAR’s Board of Directors members pledged to uphold the ideals of the Association during their 2008-2009 terms. CAR Director Dick Crook led the group in the oath of office.

AAR’s Masters Club award winners took the stage with outgoing President David DeElena (far right). The 2008 Masters Club includes Adam Malachi, Bill Rapp, Ed Hardey, Barb Cline and Sunny Banka. Not pictured are Ron Smookler and Dave Edwards.

Outgoing president names Distinguished Service
Award Winners
The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor an outgoing president of the Aurora Association of REALTORS® can give to fellow members and and representatives of AAR. The president may choose to give this prestigious award to as many or as few leaders as he or she wishes; the awards are meant to salute those individuals who have given extraordinary service to the Association or to the president during his or her term of office. At the Aurora Association of REALTORS® Inaugural Celebration Sept. 20, outgoing President David DeElena gave four President’s Distinguished Service Awards to leaders who volunteered significant time and talent to make a difference at AAR.
