Get the 411 on phones.
by Don DiFiore
We can not go a day without the use of a phone in
our business; cell phones, pagers, fax machines, scanners, computers, and pocket pc's. We use many
and sometimes all of these "tools" in any given day. The problem comes in when the technology moves
faster than we care to learn. I
look at some of the new model cell phones and say, "That would be nice to have," but how much time
will I lose learning how to use it? DAYS! I
might not ever figure out how to use all the features, and if I learn them up front it, I will forget by
the time I find that one instance I could really use that special feature. I consider myself very tech
savvy and there are new items out that I won't buy or try because they scare even
me. As agents we are bombarded by
all the latest innovations. Just step back and think, "Will I use this new tool all the time, and will
it save me time and/or money?" If you can answer "yes," then chances are, it's a good purchase to
make. Now take into consideration
the new laws that could be coming around the corner: no cell phones in the car; a national no-call list,
with cell phones included; regulations on the internet; cell phone numbers that you can keep no
matter what carrier you use; instant e-mail around the world; palm pilots that can talk and take
your new listings pictures, then process them and put them on the internet before you leave the
house. Phew! What ever happened to
two-page contracts, rotary phones you had to put into the cradle, and the days when a million dollar
producer really was something? A lot has changed in the last 20 years, hopefully for the
best. Have a great summer
selling real estate and don't forget your phone on the hike up that
fourteener.
