Use the holiday season to
reconnect, reevaluate, reminisce.
by Mitch Myers
The holiday season is a wonderful time to spend extra time with family and friends, to look back and give thanks for the good things that have happened in the past year, and to reflect on our mistakes and omissions in a way that makes us a better person.
Our current society runs at such a fast pace that the holidays can be a great time to slow down and take a breath. Use the time to catch up with an old friend or a family member who has been as busy as you have this past year. Or take time to evaluate where you are and where you want to go.
Reconnect with friends
How often do we zip through life for a month or two without calling a dear friend? How good do we feel when we do finally have a visit with that person? A friend who truly listens with your best interest at heart is priceless. Being a friend comes with a feel-good feeling that is hard to beat. This holiday season is a great time to catch up with your friends and loved ones. There is no greater gift to give or receive than friendship, and friendship is the foundation of love. Love your friends and be a friend to those you love.
Reevaluate, realign
Albert Einstein had a wonderful definition for insanity: "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". The pace of our society can have all of us doing some of the same things over and over and expecting different results, a "temporary insanity" if you will. This is the time of year to look at our past activities and reevaluate what works and what does not. It is a great time to stop and count our blessings, to really see what and who is important to us, and then to take the information and realign our activities in order to cure the "insanity."
Reminisce, pause, give thanks
The best gift to give this year might just be a pause. Pause a little bit longer to listen to your child, friend or loved one. Pause to see the little things in life that matter. Pause to give thanks for the people who have had an impact on your life. Pause to relax and reminisce.
May you and yours have one of the best holiday seasons ever!
