Nationwide Open House Weekend calls for professional conduct
By David Barber, AAR President
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is promoting a Nationwide Open House weekend April 10 and 11. The event is designed to bring national attention to the fact that, statistically, over 60 percent of first-time homebuyers made first contact with the REALTOR® they used in their transaction at an open house.
Nationally, there will be limited media exposure of the event – but on a local level, your leadership team is engineering a support structure to help you make the most of this promotional weekend.
The leadership of the seven local associations have agreed to cross promote the event throughout the metro area. In Aurora, the Aurora Sentinel will have special rates and offer maps to Association member open houses. In addition, the Association will have balloons designed specifically for this weekend. Please contact the office to make arrangements to pick up your balloons.
Some members have expressed concern regarding this event, asking whether they will be protected and whether their buyer’s agreements will be honored. CAR Communications Director Tyrone Adams has assured me that CAR is designing a special registration form which allows the buyer to “register” their client relationship.
This all being said, it is important that as a listing agent, you commit to honoring the buyer agency agreement with the same level of professionalism and commitment that you would expect your fellow members to honor. After all, most of us work both sides of the fence – and while we are holding our listings open to better serve our seller clients, we hope that our fellow agents will respect our buyer agency agreements with our buyer clients.
Our adherence to the Code of Ethics will most certainly be tested on this Nationwide Open House Weekend. I have faith that our membership will handle this event with the highest level of professionalism and integrity which has become the signature of our Association. |
