Let someone’s “trash” become
your home’s latest treasure

It has been said that “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and I couldn’t agree more! Summer is the most cost effective time to add new-to-you items around your home. Here is a list of ten things to keep your eye out for while shopping yard sales.
1. Mirrors. Look for mirrors that would work in your entry, back patio or guest bathroom.
2. Greenery. Simple ficus trees and sprigs of leaves can be used anywhere in your home where you need a little height or color.
3. Accessories. Globes, vases and statues are all great things to add to your bookshelves, mantels or desk corners. Look for items that are similar in theme or the same color.
4. Lamps. Most rooms don’t have enough lighting; updating lamp shades will give an old lamp new life.
5. Books. Look for colorful or antique bindings to stack on a side table.
6. Crystal. Tall stands, vases and glasses add sparkle on a dining room table or mantel when you add some tea lights.
7. Candle holders. Perfect for inside fireplaces, table tops, and bath tub edges.
8. Patio furniture. With Colorado’s wonderful weather, don’t pass up these treasures; create an outdoor living space with updated cushions.
9. Trunks. Add extra storage to a guest room or put a piece of glass on it for a unique coffee table.
10. Wing back chairs. Re-upholster with fabric that matches your décor for extra seating in an office or living room.
One should never underestimate the perks of a good yard sale. Always remember, spray paint is your friend and comes in every color and texture you can imagine. Redesign doesn’t have to cost you a fortune – it’s all about using what you have (or can find) first! |
